Project Evolution

Fund Raising

During 2020-2021, transitioning between 9th and 10th grade, I embarked on an ambitious fund-raising campaign to purchase swim equipment for 200 kids – swimsuits, caps, goggles, kickboards, fins, swim bags, t-shirts, water bottles and other branded items. Lawrence Ruele and I worked together to create logos for the AYSA as well as its affiliated swim team, which we agreed to call the “Sea Lions.” Such branding was necessary to give the boys and girls of Alexandra the feeling of belonging to an exclusive club.

To facilitate this fund-raising effort, I created the “Uplift thru Sport” website powered by Sportfair, a leading swim supplier in the DMV. This e-commerce website allowed people to contribute to the establishment of the Alexandra Youth Swim Academy by making a donation to purchase swim equipment. I worked with NCAP and Sportfair to assemble a complete inventory of equipment. The website kept track of the quantity purchased for each item, so contributors could see what items were still needed to fulfill the target of equipping 200 kids. Ultimately, I succeeded in raising nearly $25,000 to purchase all the necessary equipment.
